    Half Mile Mini-Plunge: Update

    Hey everyone!

Thought I'd bring you up to speed on some of the good things God did last Saturday (June 3rd at our monthly mini-Plunge. This past Saturday a small band of people and families gathered in the Gym to pray and head out into the Half Mile. Over the course of the day, somewhere between 40 and 50 Central folks (including a bunch of kids!) served by planting flowers, spreading mulch, cooking hot dogs, and distributing food. Here's a brief rundown of the day:

*We had crews working at Harbor Village, completing landscaping projects and sprucing the place up.

*La Roca joined with us in putting on a great picnic at the Harbor Village playground, and for nearly 2 hours straight, we served a steady stream of residents and kids hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies and lemonade.

*Across the street (40th/Washington), nearly 80 families received fresh food from our monthly distribution. Kids from Central's Children's Ministries collected toys (beach toys, jump ropes and the like) and gave them away to Half Mile residents. Children's also promoed the upcoming VBS and somewhere around 35 kids registered. We also had several sign up for this week's upcoming "Kids Morning," a one day free childcare ministry designed to give single moms in the Half Mile a much needed break (and opportunity to look for jobs).

*While food and landscaping are worthy blessings, the real ministry happened through relationship-building and conversatiaon. The management at Harbor Village asked the residents to join us in working outside, and we had several of our neighbors work side-by- side with Central families throughout the day. As people were waiting in the distribution line, we met many new friends, as well as continued our relationships with those that we've met before.

*A brief story: a young, single mom named Cassie joined us on Saturday morning to help landscape. Her two kids (2 and 4) played with several Central kids and a mom invited Cassie to join her at church the next morning. Both of Cassie's kids have severe food allergies, and our Children's Ministries staff did a phenomenal job of putting Cassie at ease - they went above and beyond, disinfecting the rooms and toys and creating a safe environment for Owen and Eva.

*Please pray for a team that is heading out to work on a house on 48th Street today (Saturday). Harbor Village (!) donated mulch for the project, and the team will be doing significant landscaping and outdoor cleanup for a hurting family.

Thanks for all your support! Praise God for the Kingdom expansion that is happening in our neighborhood...
