During snack time in our 1st grade classroom we have some lively conversations about our Bible lesson, pets, family, and school. One of our 1st graders was concerned about a pet, another was thankful for their newly adopted sister from Asia. The subject turned to being sorry for sin in our lives and asking Jesus into our hearts - not really sure which student brought it up. I then mentioned that my friend in Borculo had invited Jesus into his heart this year.
I asked the class if they knew what asking Jesus into their heart meant.
One of the girls gave a very, very sound answer. She mentioned that we are truly sorry for the bad stuff that we do in our lives. She told the class that she did this by praying to Jesus and that it also means that ALL her sins are forgiven, because of Jesus on the cross, and that it means you decide to follow Jesus as your God or King. Three or four other children also volunteered that they had accepted Jesus into their hearts. The whole class was focusing in on this and so I asked if there were any that would wanted to invite Jesus into their heart today. Two boys were especially eager and so I explained what it meant again.
The boys wanted to continue, so we knelt by the dry-erase board and prayed for forgiveness & salvation. For one of these boys it was the first time. His mother was very pleased to hear this when she picked him up. Another parent overheard and said it was a great thing, especially after hearing a message in the "Heaven & Hell" series.
