Winterfest, the closing event of our celebration of 15 years of Kids Hope USA at Central, was a wonderful time of fellowship and fun. One hundred thirty Jefferson School kids, their families, and CWC mentors and their families "played together" in several snowy events. The biggest hits of the evening were the sled dog rides and the sledding hill. Kids and adults also participated in a snowshoe obstacle course and a hay ride around the ring road, provided by Teusinks Pony Farm. A bonfire and hot chocolate at the gazebo kept everyone warm and having fun. The evening ended with chili and hotdogs in the gym.
As the director of Kids Hope, the evening was particularly meaningful for me because we had invited the whole school to come, and probably 75 percent of the families who came were from Jefferson and not affiliated with our Kids Hope USA program. It was a great outreach, and now we're talking about making it a yearly event.
