At the Christmas Plunge I had the privilege of taking several children to shop for their parents and make crafts, and taking the whole family to get a photo taken and to decorate cookies. Jose is a 5th grade boy who was very thoughtful about choosing a gift for his dad. He then decided to give his little mouse craft to his mother because she likes candy and it had a candy cane for a tail. He asked me when he should give his parents their gifts and I said that he could put them under the Christmas tree until the family opens gifts together. He said that he didn't have a tree. I sure messed that up. So we talked about how fun it would be for him to add his gifts to the ones his parents were shopping for and to think about all the secrets that were in them. I suggested that his family could walk through the neighborhood and enjoy lots more trees than he could ever fit in his house and he thought that was a great idea. We had such a great time together.
Although Jose and his family might not have a tree this year, because of the Christmas Plunge, each child in his family will have three gifts to open. Mom and dad have gifts given to them by a very sweet and loving son, too.
Chris, Linda and all the volunteers and those who made donations did an amazing job of serving and loving community families. I will not forget to pray for Jose and his family.
God is so good.
