In October, the Influence Department held an "Oil Change Day" where we offered free oil changes and light car repair. This event was initiated by a mechanic who attends Central. There was one woman who attended to have her car fixed. She was a single mother of 2, and she needed quite a bit more work done on her car that we were doing on that day. She did get an oil change and had some brake work done, but she needed much more. The mechanic didn't just send her on her way, but he set up some times to do additional work for her. During the next few months, he did various repairs on her car, bringing his sister with him. She and the young mother instantly hit it off and has helped to care for her children so she could have a break. The mechanic and his sister also helped the young mother with various baby supplies when she needed them. The mother has attended Central a few times, gone to Breakfast with Baby and has recently called asking how she can have her children baptized.
What started out as a free oil change... turned into a great relationship... and in turn has let a young mother know that she has friends down the road at Central.
