We had a great turnout for the Half Mile Thanksgiving feast...good food, good fellowship and lots of laughter all contributed to the feeling that we were just one big family sharing a Thanksgiving meal. An incredible team of volunteers poured a lot of time and energy into creating a beautiful and comfortable environment and prepared some REALLY good food, which all contributed to the huge blessing for our neighbors. BLD Products donated 22 (!) turkeys, and we were able to bless each Half Mile family with a turkey to take home.
Here's what Leslie, who took point on the event, has to say:
"As I reflect on what went well and what could be done differently, I think of all the conversations and smiles and how everyone pitched in all around. Just to take some of the pressure off ... God had the guests invited way before you did. We ordered 10 linen table clothes and paid for 10 linen table clothes. When setting up the tables we decided to set up an eleventh just in case and to our surprise we actually had an extra two table clothes. A wonderful lady came into the kitchen with a turkey she had prepared the night before. We set it aside 'just in case'. My husband later announced that a twelfth table needed to be set up - we had one more extra table cloth (we didn't order) and that wonderful extra turkey to provide
for all the extra people on that lasttable. God is so organized!!! There were approximately 100 people sitting at the tables which would include one central couple (family) at each."
It was a great afternoon. Praise God for the work He's doing and for
the fact that He lets us be a part of it!
