Hey everyone -
Thanks to all who were involved with Saturday's Food Distribution. A small band of Central folks showed up to help out - hanging out with those waiting in line, checking people in, taking prayer requests, distributing and organizing food, carrying groceries to cars and praying with our neighbors. We had a "successful day" - in the amount of families served, but more importantly in the relationships that were created or continued. A total of 77 families came through the distribution, representing nearly 250 people. We basically emptied the truck, with a total of about 8000 pounds of fresh food put in the hands of those in need.
Over and over again, we heard residents express their gratefulness for the distribution, often through tears. We took prayer requestsfrom a number of neighbors who came through the line (prayer updates are available on the Half Mile website). One of the most exciting and encouraging moments was when three Half Mile residents told me that they're excited by what God is doing in the neighborhood and that they want to help serve and love their neighborhood by working with the Half Mile ministry - proof that trust is being built and empowerment is taking place.
Also, we've had several new Half Mile families begin to attend Central on a semi-regular basis, and a resident made a decision for Christ recently! Praise God for His faithfulness...
Mark your calendars for the Saturday, September 9, 4:00PM. The Southside Block Party will take place on the corner of 40th/Washington, and we're praying that it will be a massive blessing for the community. You can also find a list of monthly food distributions and other opportunities to get plugged in by logging onto the Half Mile website.
Peace -
