    Half Mile Ministry

Last week I had the opportunity to drive one of our Half Mile residents to the Allegan County Courthouse. I got to know Terry and her 3 kids this past summer and have enjoyed building a relationship with them over the past few months. While she was working out her legal matters, I had the privilege of hanging out with her 2 year old daughter and 4 year old son - becoming a single parent for the afternoon. We headed to McDonald's for Happy Meals. The first hour was fine, until everybody needed to use the bathroom. I got to learn the mechanics of diapers and had a bit of a shock when I found the 4-year old washing his hands in the urinal...and then the ice cream machine broke. At any rate, we all survived, and on the ride home, my friend said, "You know, there's a lot of churches that come through Harbor Village...but, there's something different about yours. Your people show a lot more grace." We've had teams going door-to-door in Harbor Village for the past several Sunday nights. She was incredibly appreciative for the ride and I was incredibly appreciative for the opportunity to be a godly male role model for two little ones. It will be fun to see how God continues to work in and amongst their family.
